LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Police Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio I. Peñones Jr., Police Regional Office-3 chief, on Tuesday reiterated the strict enforcement of the one-strike policy against indiscriminate firing on New Year’s Eve.
Peñones stressed that reckless or celebratory gunfire has no place in a professional police organization and poses a serious threat to public safety.
He said this policy underscores the Philippine National Police’s firm commitment to protecting lives and ensuring that the season of celebration remains peaceful and injury-free.
Peñones is optimistic that all police personnel in Central Luzon will observe the highest standards of discipline and professionalism in the handling of firearms.
“Any act of indiscriminate firing constitutes a grave violation of duty and will not be tolerated under any circumstance,” he said.
“Personnel found guilty of such acts shall face immediate administrative and criminal sanctions, including dismissal from the service and the filing of appropriate criminal cases, in accordance with existing laws. The one-strike policy allows no warnings and no second chances,” Peñones said.
Peñones, citing command responsibility, directed all unit commanders to take swift and decisive action. “Any personnel involved in indiscriminate firing shall be immediately relieved from their posts and placed under preventive suspension pending investigation, ensuring accountability at all levels of command.”
PRO-3 is implementing heightened security measures for the holiday season.
