Police arrested two individuals for allegedly selling prohibited fireworks in Barangay Biñan 1st, Bocaue, Bulacan, on Monday evening, Dec. 29.
According to a report from the head of the Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU), Lt. Col. Russel Dennis E. Reburiano, a buy-bust operation was conducted in coordination with the Bocaue Municipal Police Station in line with Republic Act No. 7183, also known as the Philippine Firecracker Law.
The suspects were nabbed after selling two pieces of “Crying Cow” to an undercover police officer for P500.
Authorities also confiscated various types of illegal and locally made firecrackers from the suspects, including Kabase (200 pieces), Kingkong (200 pieces), Atomic Bomb (43 pieces), Pla-Pla (800 pieces), Super Lolo (100 pieces), Whistle Bomb (77 pieces), Judas Belt or Higad (four pieces), Tuna (20 pieces), and Three Star (100 pieces). The total estimated value of the seized items was P51,990.
The arrested suspects and the confiscated evidence were brought to the PIU Bulacan Provincial Police Office for documentation prior to inquest proceedings at the Bulacan Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
Bulacan police director Col. Angel L. Garcillano said the police are strictly enforcing laws against the illegal sale and use of firecrackers to prevent fires, injuries, and other incidents that may endanger the public, especially with the approaching New Year celebration.
He also urged the public to cooperate with authorities by reporting any suspicious activities related to firecrackers in their communities.
