The Taguig City government identified the designated firecracker zones in barangays ahead of the celebration to welcome the New Year.
“To keep our families safe during this celebration, the City of Taguig is strictly prohibiting the use of firecrackers and pyrotechnics in individual homes and residential areas,” the city government announced on Dec. 28.
The prohibition is based on Executive Order No. 28 issued in 2017 “providing for the regulation and control of the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices.”
The executive order mandates that “to minimize the risk of injuries and casualties, the use of firecrackers shall henceforth be confined to community fireworks displays.”
“Fireworks are only allowed in Designated Firecracker Zones in your barangay,” the city government added.
It said each firecracker zone must have an open space, five-meter clearance (must be five meters away from buildings and establishments), emergency support like on-site fire trucks, ambulances, and medical personnel, and fire extinguishers and trained Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (BDRRM) response teams.
Some barangays in Taguig have no designated firecracker zones.
“In addition, pursuant to Republic Act No. 7183, the city prohibits the manufacture, sale, distribution, and use of all firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices. Non-compliance with this directive shall result in criminal prosecution and the imposition of corresponding penalties,” the city government warned the public.
