A rockfall occurred at the summit lava dome of Mayon Volcano on Monday afternoon, Dec. 29, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The agency said the camera and seismic instruments of the Mayon Volcano Network recorded the event.
In an advisory, Phivolcs said the rockfall occurred at 4:33 p.m. and traveled down the Miisi Gully on the volcano’s southern slopes, coming to rest within one kilometer of the summit crater, similar to previous events.
The agency also reported that 19 rockfall events occurred the previous day.
Phivolcs said the Alert Level 1 remains in effect over Mayon, signifying low-level unrest.
The agency noted that entry into the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) remains strictly prohibited due to the risk of sudden rockfalls and other volcanic hazards.
