The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) disclosed on Monday, Dec. 29, that it has rescued four crew members of a motor banca that broke down off Romblon’s waters.
The Coast Guard Sub-Station Cajidiocan responded to a distress call on Dec. 27 involving “MBCA JRM” which lost engine power and drifted at sea while crossing the waters between Sibuyan Island and Burias Island
The vessel was located about 12 nautical miles off Barangay Danao in Cajidiocan, Romblon.
The PCG said all four individuals on board were found in good condition. They were provided with food and drinking water by rescue personnel upon rescue.
Meanwhile, the motor banca was safely towed to Barangay Cambalo in Cajidiocan.
After repairs, it resumed its voyage the next morning, Dec. 28, and arrived in Barangay Maolingon, Mandaon, Masbate as confirmed by the Coast Guard Sub-Station Mandaon.
The rescued passengers thanked the PCG for the swift response.
On the other hand, the PCG reminded mariners to ensure their vessels are seaworthy, carry working communication equipment, and strictly observe maritime safety rules especially during busy travel periods.
