Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso assured residents of the readiness of all hospitals and medical institutions in the city in responding to firecracker-related injuries and other emergencies this coming New Year.
According to him, all six district hospitals in Manila are already prepared to accept patients who will be in need of urgent medical care during the festivities, particularly its emergency rooms and ambulatory-care services facilities.
These district hospitals are Ospital ng Maynila, Ospital ng Sampaloc, Ospital ng Tondo, Gat Andres Bonifacio Medical Center, Sta. Ana Hospital, and Justice Abad Santos General Hospital.
"Sa pagsalubong natin sa 2026, naka-high alert ang lahat ng ating ospital upang tiyakin ang mabilis at maayos na serbisyong medikal (As we welcome 2026, all our hospitals are on high alert to ensure fast and efficient medical services)," Domagoso said.
He also urged the public to refrain from buying and using illegal firecrackers to prevent any untoward incidents that may cause bodily harm or damage to properties.
"Mariing paalala po sa ating mga kababayan: mahigpit na ipinagbabawal ang paggamit ng mga ilegal na paputok. Delikado ito sa buhay, nakasisira ng kaayusan, at walang puwang sa isang disiplinado at maayos na lungsod (A strong reminder to our countrymen: the use of illegal fireworks is strictly prohibited. They are dangerous to life, disrupt public order, and have no place in a disciplined and orderly city)," the mayor stressed.
Domagoso also expressed his gratitude to all concerned offices and agencies in Manila tasked with ensuring the safety and order of all Manileños even during holidays.
"Sa ating barangay officials at kapulisan, inaasahan ko ang inyong buong kooperasyon sa mahigpit na pagpapatupad ng batas upang masalubong natin ang 2026 nang ligtas, payapa, at maayos (To our barangay officials and police, I expect your full cooperation in strictly enforcing the law so that we can welcome 2026 safely, peacefully, and orderly)," he noted.
Manila Police District (MPD) Spokesperson Major Philipp Ines said the police have confiscated more than P500,000 worth of illegal firecrackers being sold in the city as of Monday, Dec. 29.
