Las Piñas Mayor April Aguilar urged residents to welcome the New Year through safer alternative activities, stressing that the use of firecrackers and pyrotechnics poses risks to life, limb, property, and the environment.
Aguilar said barangay officials will conduct regular patrols across the city’s 20 barangays to ensure compliance with the ordinance and report any violations to the Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO).
Under the ordinance, violators may be fined between P1,000 and P5,000 or face imprisonment of three to six months.
The ordinance, however, allows community fireworks displays, provided organizers secure the necessary permits to possess and display fireworks from the local police and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
Aguilar said fireworks displays must be conducted in open areas at least 100 feet away from spectators, with all fireworks projected upward.
She added that a responsible person, or persons, at least 21 years old and with adequate knowledge in handling fireworks, must be designated to supervise the display.
