The easterlies, shear line, and the northeast monsoon or “amihan” may bring rains over parts of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, Dec. 29.
According to PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin Dela Cruz-Galicia, the shear line is currently the primary weather system causing rainfall in the eastern portions of Southern Luzon and the Visayas.
“Patuloy na nagpapaulan ngayon ang shear line dito silangang bahagi ng Southern Luzon at ng kabisayaan (The shear line continues to bring rains over the eastern parts of Southern Luzon and the Visayas),” she said.
Dela Cruz-Galicia said the northeast monsoon continues to influence large portions of Luzon, particularly its northern and central areas.
“Samantala, ramdam pa rin northeast monsoon o amihan lalong-lalo na rito sa hilaga at gitnang Luzon (Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or amihan is still being felt, especially over northern and central Luzon),” she said.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said the easterlies remain in effect over the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao.
“Sa natitirang bahagi naman ng Visayas at Mindanao, patuloy ring umiiral ang easterlies o ‘yung hanging nanggagaling sa Dagat Pasipiko (In the remaining parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, the easterlies, or winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, continue to prevail),” she said.
Despite the prevailing weather systems, PAGASA said there is no tropical cyclone being monitored within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and no gale warning is currently in effect.
“Ngayon nga po ay wala tayong bagyo na mino-monitor sa loob ng ating area of responsibility, wala rin po tayong gale warning na nakataas ngayon sa anumang bahagi ng ating mga baybaying dagat (At present, we are not monitoring any storm within our area of responsibility, and there is also no gale warning raised over any part of our coastal waters),” she said.
