Caloocan, Navotas LGUs reiterate ban on prohibited firecrackers
By Hannah Nicol
The local governments of Caloocan City and Navotas City reminded residents to follow the ban on the sale and use of prohibited firecrackers as the New Year approaches.
The cities said the ban is based on Republic Act No. 7183 and Executive Order No. 28, which regulate fireworks and firecrackers to prevent injuries and property damage.
In Caloocan, the city government released a list of banned firecrackers, including watusi, piccolo, five star, pla-pla, giant bawang, giant whistle bomb, atomic bomb, super lolo, lolo thunder, mother rockets, dart bomb, goodbye Philippines, coke-in-can, bin Laden, pillbox, kabasi, super yolanda, boga, kwiton, and similar items.
It also warned that fireworks that are oversized, overweight, imported, unlabeled, or have very short fuses are prohibited, even if sold under other names.
Meanwhile, the Navotas City government reminded the public that those caught selling or using banned firecrackers may face fines ranging from P20,000 to P30,000 or imprisonment of six months to one year.
The city government also issued safety reminders in case of firecracker-related injuries.
It also advised residents to wash burns or wounds with soap and clean water, cover them with sterile gauze, and seek medical care for proper treatment, including anti-tetanus shots.
Both local governments urged residents to celebrate responsibly and choose safer ways to welcome the New Year.
