Nine overseas Filipino workers (OFW) who were rescued from a human trafficking syndicate in Myanmar arrived in the country in recent repatriation efforts of the Philippine government, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said on Monday, Dec. 29.
DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the nine OFWs arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 via Thai Airways.
“Their arrival was just in time to ring in the New Year with their families,” said Cacdac.
And despite what happened, Cacdac said the OFWs will not go home to their family empty-handed as they received initial financial assistance and welfare support from DMW and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) as soon as they arrived.
And there will be more as they are scheduled to report to the DMW in January 2026 for legal aid and additional case management.
“This is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to protect and assist victims of human trafficking,” said Cacdac.
“This successful repatriation underscores the Philippine government’s strong commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of Filipino workers abroad,” he added.
