ILOILO CITY – Two-hundred inmates of the Iloilo City District Jail (ICDJ) benefited from a post-Christmas medical mission over the weekend.
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) thanked the True Wellness Medical Group and partner Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) for conducting the Dec. 27 medical mission.
BJMP-6 Regional Director Jail Senior Supt. Jhon Montero said that it was the first medical mission in Western Visayas that tapped PhilHealth’s primary care benefit program YAKAP (Yaman ng Kalusugan).
The medical mission not only benefited inmates with pre-existing medical conditions but also others whose illnesses were detected through YAKAP.
ICDJ inmates underwent free consultations with Dr. Joey Sinchioco as well as basic laboratory tests. Inmates were also given a month-long supply of medicines and vitamins.
ICDJ Warden Jail Supt. Denver Beltran said the medical mission was timely as it augmented medical services in a jail facility that is facing 900 percent overcrowding and lack of funds.
Virma Yasa Apostol assured that True Wellness Medical Group will expand the medical mission to other BJMP jail facilities in Western Visayas region.
The next medical mission will be conducted at the Iloilo District Jail (IDJ) in Pototan town, Iloilo province.
