1 dead, 5 hurt in SUV plunge

BONTOC, Mountain Province – A lady driver was killed and five others were injured when their Mitsubishi Montero Sports Utility Vehicle plunged into a ravine on the Bontoc-Mainit Provincial Road in Sitio Aratey, Guina-ang, Bontoc, Mountain Province, on Tuesday night, Dec. 28.

Police identified the fatality as Cherylina Geston Dalilis, 53, of Bayabas, Pico, La Trinidad, Benguet.

Her body was recovered from the side of the wrecked vehicle and was declared dead on site by Municipal Health Officer Dr. Diga Kay D. Gomez due to traumatic head injuries.

The injured – Eunice Geston-Andaya, Eunark Geston Andaya, Destiny Geston Dalilis, Cleijter Geston Andaya, and Ken Shane Kewan – were taken to the hospital.

The Bontoc Municipal Police Station reported to the Bontoc Emergency Operations Center that the vehicle with license plates NBA-4820 fell 20 meters and ended up in a rice field.

The accident reportedly involved another vehicle.

Police advised motorists to exercise caution while traveling along mountainous roads.

Authorities are conducting follow-up investigation.
