A 40-year-old officer-in-charge (OIC) security guard was arrested by police after he allegedly fired a gun while intoxicated, causing alarm among residents along Perla Street, Barangay 121, Tondo, Manila.
The suspect, identified by the alias “Jury,” a native of Negros Occidental and a resident of the area, was arrested in a swift operation conducted by personnel of Manila Police District (MPD) Police Station 1 under the leadership of Lt. Col. Ronald De Leon.
According to the MPD report, the incident occurred at around 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, when the suspect, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, fired his firearm in their neighborhood. The gunfire caused fear among residents due to the potential danger posed by stray bullets.
Barangay officials immediately reported the incident to the police.
At around 3 p.m., after several hours of surveillance and police positioning near the suspect’s residence, authorities were able to arrest the suspect. Confiscated from him was a Glock 17 Gen 5 pistol. Another firearm was voluntarily surrendered to the police.
The suspect is currently detained and faces multiple charges, including violations of Article 155 (Alarms and Scandals) and Article 254 (Discharge of Firearms) of the Revised Penal Code, as amended by Republic Act No. 11926 (Willful and Indiscriminate Discharge of Firearms), as well as Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Lt. Col. De Leon said police visibility and intensified patrolling have been strengthened in various streets in Tondo to prevent criminal activity and ensure immediate police response.
