Rains to persist despite no LPA as 'amihan,' easterlies affect Philippines— PAGASA

Rains will continue to affect parts of the country despite the absence of any low-pressure area (LPA), as the northeast monsoon or “amihan” and the easterlies remain the dominant weather systems, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, Dec. 28.
Obet Badrina, PAGASA weather specialist, said the “amihan” is prevailing over large portions of Luzon, while the easterlies continue to bring cloudiness and rainfall over eastern sections of the Visayas and Mindanao.
The northeast monsoon continues to prevail, particularly over some parts and a large portion of Luzon, while the easterlies are bringing cloudiness and rainfall over the eastern part of the Visayas, including the Caraga Region),” he said.
He said generally fair weather is expected over most of Luzon, except for isolated light rains in northern areas, while moderate to at times heavy rains may affect eastern sections of the country.
So today, a large part of Luzon will experience generally fair weather, except for light rains over Batanes and Cagayan, while much of Eastern Visayas, including Caraga, may experience moderate to at times heavy rains),” said Badrina.
Meanwhile, the weather specialist added that localized thunderstorms will be experienced over the remaining parts of the Visayas and Mindanao.
Despite the rainy conditions in several regions, PAGASA said no weather disturbance is currently being monitored, and the likelihood of a tropical cyclone forming remains low.
At present, based on our latest data, we are not monitoring any low-pressure area inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility),” Badrina said.
“Maliit na po ‘yung posibilidad na magkaroon tayo ng bagyo at least in the next three to five days kaya posible po hanggang sa pagtaapos na ng taong 2025 ay maliit na ang posibilidad na magkaroon tayo ng bagyo (The likelihood of a cyclone forming is low at least in the next three to five days, and it is possible that the chance of a cyclone remains low until the end of 2025).”
