The spotlight is on the new MG HS Hybrid+, a compact SUV sporting the brand's newer design language. The model uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged hybrid-dedicated engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 224 PS and 340 Nm of torque. Power is managed through a 2-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission and supported by a 1.83 kWh battery. The system allows the vehicle to operate across electric, hybrid, and gasoline modes without the need for external charging, designed to operate without requiring changes to established refueling routines.
Fuel efficiency is a major talking point for the HS Hybrid+. MG Motor Philippines states that the vehicle achieves 21.55 km/L, a figure verified by the Automobile Association Philippines. Combined with its hybrid system, this translates to a claimed driving range of more than 1,000 kilometers, a figure that aligns with local use cases where long daily drives and intercity travel remain common.
Safety is a major part of the HS Hybrid+’s technical positioning, as the model carries 5-star ratings from both Euro NCAP and ANCAP, supported locally by MG Pilot, the brand’s driver assistance suite. Features include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert and braking, and a 360-degree camera system. These are supported by a comprehensive set of passive and active safety systems, including multiple airbags, vehicle dynamics control, traction control, and active rollover protection.
Inside, a pair of 12.3-inch screens serves as the digital instrument cluster and infotainment display, with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other equipment includes wireless charging, dual-zone automatic climate control with an air purifier, and leather seats with power adjustment, lumbar support, and memory for the driver. A panoramic sunroof, hands-free power tailgate, and reverse auto-tilting mirrors complete the overall equipment package, while the exterior is defined by LED lighting and 19-inch alloy wheels.
Speaking during the launch, Felix Jiang, President of MG Motor Philippines at the time, framed the HS Hybrid+ as more than just another addition to the range. “The MG HS Hybrid+ is more than just a new model — it is our statement of intent for the future of mobility in the Philippines,” Jiang said. “It brings together modern design, world-class safety, and next-generation hybrid technology in one premium package – a vehicle designed to let Filipino motorists truly experience a 5-star life.”
New SAIC PH President
Wei Wei Ziang, former President of MG Indonesia, now heads SAIC Motor Philippines' operations
SAIC Motor Philippines confirmed a leadership transition that came shortly after the model’s introduction. Jiang, who has led the local operation for the past three years, will be reassigned to MG Australia. He will be succeeded by Wei Wei Zhang, who takes over as President of MG Philippines.
Under Jiang’s tenure, MG Philippines recorded significant growth, including record sales in 2024 and segment leadership in the 1.5-liter sedan category. The brand also expanded its local portfolio to include internal combustion, hybrid, and fully electric vehicles, establishing MG as a regular presence among the country’s top automotive brands. His reassignment comes as MG continues to scale its operations across the region.
Zhang brings regional experience to the role, having previously served as President of MG Indonesia before joining SAIC Motor’s ASEAN Partner Group in Shanghai, where he oversaw multiple Southeast Asian markets. His appointment points to continuity in approach as MG balances conventional powertrains with electrified offerings such as the HS Hybrid+.
Commenting on the transition, Karl Magsuci, Vice President of MG Philippines, acknowledged both the outgoing and incoming leaders. “We are deeply grateful to Mr. Jiang for his visionary leadership and significant contributions to MG Philippines’ success,” Magsuci said. “At the same time, we are confident that Mr. Zhang’s experience, regional insight, and strategic vision will lead MG Philippines into its next phase of growth, further strengthening our commitment to delivering innovative, sustainable mobility solutions to our customers.”
The new hybrid SUV outlines the brand’s immediate product direction, while the leadership handover points to how the local operation is being positioned moving forward, reflecting how the local operation is being aligned with regional directives, including its growing electrified lineup.
