Magnitude 4.6 quake hits waters off Palauig, Zambales — Phivolcs

A magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck the sea off Palauig, Zambales early Sunday morning, Dec. 28, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In an earlier bulletin, Phivolcs reported the earthquake at magnitude 4.8, but later lowered it.
According to its Earthquake Information No. 2, the tremor occurred at 2:26 a.m.
The agency said the quake was located about 9 kilometers north-northwest of Palauig, Zambales.
Phivolcs said it had a depth of focus of 30 kilometers and was tectonic in origin.
Phivolcs reported Intensity III shaking in Masinloc, Iba, and Botolan, Zambales, while Intensity II was felt in Quezon City.
Based on instrumental readings, Intensity III was recorded in Botolan, Zambales; Intensity II in Masinloc and Iba, Zambales, and Guagua, Pampanga; while Intensity I was logged in San Marcelino, Zambales; Calumpit, Bulacan; Rizal, Nueva Ecija; Santa Ignacia, Tarlac; and the cities of Navotas and Malabon.
The agency said no damage is expected, and no aftershocks are anticipated from the earthquake.
