ILOILO CITY – The Police Regional Office-6 destroyed 7,300 illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices confiscated in Western Visayas region.
Police Col. Roland Bulalacao, PRO-6 deputy regional director for operations, supervised their ceremonial destruction on Saturday, Dec. 27.
PRO-6 tapped the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) for their proper destruction and disposal.
Destroyed were “boga” (homemade cannon), kwitis, granada, dynamic big, kara, lolo thunder, and giant whistle bombs.
Police seized 7,336 prohibited firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices and 81 boga in the region as of Dec. 26.
The Regional Support Unit-6 recovered 4,980 firecrackers, followed by the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) with 1,254 firecrackers and one boga; the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), 710 firecrackers and 30 boga; Guimaras PPO, 380 firecrackers; Aklan PPO, 12 firecrackers and 37 boga, and Capiz PPO, 13 boga.
The PRO-6 led by Police Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan urged the people to choose a safer way of celebrating the New Year.
“Let us welcome the New Year not with danger, but with peace: Whole, healthy, and hopeful. ‘Yung wala po tayong mababalitaang may naputulan ng kamay o kahit isang daliri manlang (No severed hands or fingers),” said Ligan in a statement.
