PNP warns public of danger of illegal firecracker after deadly Dagupan blast

The explosion in Dagupan City that left two people dead is proof of the grave dangers of operating an illegal firecracker factory, a top official of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.
And this is not the first time as it happened several times in the past, acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. said as he emphasized the need for the people in the community to work with the government in ensuring public safety.
In the case of the illegal firecracker factory in Dagupan City that exploded on Christmas day, it is located in a residential area in Sitio Boquig, Barangay Bacayao Norte and operated without permits, as confirmed by Dagupan City Police and the Regional Civil Security Unit.
“The incident was the recent of the same tragedies, and only highlighted anew the danger of setting illegal firecracker factories. We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident, especially since it happened on Christmas Day when families should be celebrating together,” Nartatez said.
He noted that the PNP has consistently warned against the manufacture and sale of illegal firecrackers, particularly during the holiday season, “Unfortunately, this incident shows the deadly consequences when the law is ignored.
Nartatez said he already ordered a thorough investigation into the Dagupan explosion to establish accountability and ensure that those behind the illegal operation are charged.
He also warned individuals who continue to engage in illegal firecracker manufacturing and selling despite repeated police advisories that they will be punished once caught.
“We appeal to our kababayan to help us in putting a stop to this illegal and irresponsible practice. Let us work together to keep our family and community safe,” said Nartatez.
