TACLOBAN CITY – The Leyte Police Provincial Office (LPPO) has intensified its investigation and search operations following the reported disappearance of a parish priest in Leyte, underscoring its ongoing efforts to locate him and establish the circumstances surrounding the case.
In a statement on Friday, the LPPO said it is conducting continuous validation, case build-up, and coordination with concerned police units regarding the reported missing person, Fr. Edwin Cutz Caintoy, 55, parish priest of San Jose de Malibago Parish in Barangay Malibago, Babatngon, Leyte.
Police said that upon receipt of the report on Dec. 24, tracking and verification activities were immediately undertaken.
Authorities reviewed available closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, which last showed Caintoy at around 9:08 a.m. on Dec. 23, heading towards a mall in Abucay district in this city.
“We are actively following up all leads, validating information circulating on social media, and coordinating with local police stations to determine the priest’s movements after his last recorded sighting. Police visibility and monitoring activities have also been strengthened in key areas as part of the ongoing search,” the LPPO said.
Authorities said all investigative efforts are being carried out to locate Caintoy at the soonest possible time, while ensuring accuracy and integrity of information gathered.
The LPPO again urged the public to avoid sharing unverified reports that may impede the investigation, and encouraged individuals with credible information to coordinate with the Babatngon Municipal Police Station or the nearest police unit. (PNA)
