MARANAN
CEBU CITY – The celebration of Christmas in Region 7 was generally peaceful, the chief of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7) said.
Police Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, chief of PRO-7, said that they did not receive reports of firecracker-related incidents during Christmas Day.
Maranan added that no untoward incidents were recorded during the nine-day dawn Masses or Misa de Gallo.
To ensure the peaceful celebration of Christmas, Maranan said at least 10,000 personnel were deployed on Christmas Day.
The same number of personnel will also be deployed to ensure zero incidents during the New Year revelry.
Maranan led the inspection of firecracker stalls in Barangay Babag, Lapu-Lapu City a day before Christmas.
No violations were discovered, said Maranan.
“It was good that we found no vendors selling illegal firecrackers. The people in Region 7 are generally law-abiding but we will not be complacent. We will continue the conduct of surprise inspections to really see to it that everybody is abiding by the law,” said Maranan.
