PDIC appoints 2 independent directors to strengthen deposit insurance integrity

The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) Board has appointed two independent directors to strengthen impartiality in deposit insurance policies and uphold the integrity of the country’s deposit insurance system.
PDIC Chairperson and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Eli M. Remolona, Jr. led last week the oathtaking of Justice Lady P. Soriano and Imelda C. Tiongson as official private sector representatives on the PDIC Board.
“Directors Soriano and Tiongson will play an important role in ensuring impartiality in policies governing deposit insurance and in promoting the integrity and soundness of the country’s deposit insurance system,” the PDIC said in a statement released on Friday, Dec. 26.
Soriano and Tiongson completed the four private-sector representatives on the PDIC Board when they joined existing members John Mark S. Frondoso and Luis Rey I. Velasco.
Soriano is the chief finance officer (CFO) at Synergy Grid and Development Philippines, Inc., with extensive experience in financial management and compliance reporting. She previously worked at Calaca High Power Corp., the state-run Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), and the PDIC Financial Assistance Management Center.
Soriano holds an Economics degree from Ateneo de Manila University and a Master’s in Finance from De La Salle University.
Tiongson is the president and consultant of OPAL SPV, focusing on turning around distressed companies and assets. She has over 30 years of experience in banking, finance, risk management, corporate governance, and IT, and has held senior roles at Philippine National Bank (PNB) and National Australia Bank (NAB).
Tiongson also helped draft major business laws, participates in professional organizations, lectures on corporate governance, and holds an Accountancy degree from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, along with specialized banking and strategy certifications.
