Bulacan police arrested a man in Barangay Bagumbayan, Bulakan, on Thursday, Dec. 25, after residents reported he was wielding a firearm and allegedly harming his children.
Bulakan police chief Lt. Col. Rodelisa P. San Buenaventura said residents heard the children screaming and immediately sought help. Responding officers arrested the suspect, identified as Berto, 41, a mechanic and resident of Bulakan, and rescued the two children.
Authorities recovered a .38-caliber revolver with one bullet and an improvised firearm loaded with 9mm round. The seized weapons are undergoing verification.
The suspect remains in police custody while the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor prepares charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
"The immediate response to reports of armed individuals is important to prevent possible violence. The Bulacan Police's campaign against illegal firearms continues to be strict to maintain the peace and safety of our communities," Col. Angel L. Garcillano, director of the Bulacan Police Provincial Office, stated.
