The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) have launched round-the-clock operations to fast-track upgrades at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila in preparation for a major international women’s tennis tournament in 2026.
Upgrades include road improvements and enhanced support facilities inside the complex ahead of the Philippine Women’s Open (WTA125) scheduled in January.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. directed the accelerated modernization of the historic venue to meet international standards and provide long-term benefits for Filipino athletes, the DPWH said.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon recently inspected the construction of athlete dormitories at the PhilSports Complex in Pasig City.
He instructed contractors to ensure structural durability, quality workmanship, and strict compliance with safety standards.
PSC Chairman Patrick Gregorio said the upgrades demonstrate the government’s commitment to strengthening national sports infrastructure.
