DOH logs 263 road crash injuries nationwide from Dec. 21–26
A total of 263 road crash injuries were recorded nationwide from Dec. 21 to 5 a.m. of Dec. 26, the Department of Health (DOH) disclosed.
According to agency, the data were gathered from 10 sentinel hospitals nationwide tasked with monitoring road crash–related injuries.
Based on the DOH’s data, 31 cases were caused by drunk driving, while 224 were caused by the improper use of safety gear and equipment such as seatbelts and helmets.
The DOH also noted that 193 of the 263 total road crash cases involved motorcycles.
DOH Secretary Ted Herbosa urged the public to wear Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-certified helmets when riding motorcycles and other two-wheeled vehicles to help prevent road crash incidents.
He also reminded motorists to avoid drunk driving and to strictly observe speed limits designated on various roads and avenues.
Herbosa further advised drivers to ensure they get adequate rest, with at least seven to eight hours of sleep, before getting behind the wheel.
