A magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck offshore east of Balut Island in Sarangani on Thursday morning, Dec. 25, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In its Earthquake Information No. 1, the agency said the tremor occurred at 10:48 a.m.
The quake, per Phivolcs, was located about 250 kilometers away from Balut Island, off the coast of Sarangani in Davao Occidental.
It had a depth of focus of 110 kilometers and was tectonic in origin, the agency added.
Phivolcs said it does not expect damage or aftershocks from the earthquake.
No reported instrumental or felt intensities were immediately recorded, it noted.
