A total of 28 fireworks-related injuries were tallied by the Department of Health (DOH) nationwide from Dec. 21 to Dec. 25.
The agency noted that this represents a 50 percent decline from last year’s figure, which recorded 56 cases during the same period.
The DOH said the data were collected from 62 sentinel hospitals nationwide that are monitoring fireworks-related injuries.
Based on the agency’s data, 19 cases involved individuals aged 19 and below, with most injuries caused by 5-Star, Boga, and Triangle firecrackers.
The health department urged the public to immediately seek medical attention in cases of firecracker-related injuries and other health emergencies.
“Tumawag agad sa National Emergency Hotline 911 para sa emergency medical assistance (Immediately call the National Emergency Hotline 911 for emergency medical assistance),” it said.
