CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – The Oriental Mindoro Police Provincial Office has activated a special investigation task group to probe a road rage shooting incident that wounded two individuals, one of them a minor, in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro on Tuesday, Dec. 23.
Police Col. Edison V. Revita, Oriental Mindoro police chief, said the incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on the national highway in Barangay Pinagsabangan.
Revita said the victims were traveling on board a red Suzuki Alto car when another vehicle, an Isuzu D-Max pickup truck, edged their vehicle.
The driver of the car sounded the horn but the pickup truck driver overtook them and without apparent reason, fired two shots before fleeing.
The victims sustained multiple bullet wounds and were taken to the hospital. The other passengers of the car were unharmed.
Police Lt. Col. Bobby Lloyd D. Ortiguero, chief of the Naujan Municipal Police Station, has requested the assistance of the Regional Forensic Unit (RFU)-Mimaropa for crime scene processing and evidence documentation.
Lawmen conducted a dragnet operation with adjacent police stations but the suspect managed to escape.
Police are determining if the incident was caused by road rage.
Authorities are gathering additional evidence, including the retrieval and review of available closed circuit television camera footages.
Revita assured the victims and the people that all efforts are being exerted to identify the suspect and bring justice to the victims.
