Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) President Leyte 1st district Rep. Martin Romualdez's Christmas message is one that is brimming with hope, despite the challenges he has gone through these past few months.
"Mga kababayan ko (My countrymen), this Christmas season, we celebrate the deep faith that unites us as Filipinos - pag-asa, puso, tapang, at pagmamahal sa bawat isa (hope, heart, courage, and love for every one)," Romualdez said in a statement.
"May the birth of Christ renew our hearts, strengthen our families, and remind us that even in difficult times, light always finds its way through," he added.
If anything, Romualdez appears to have placed behind him the circumstances that led to his resignation as House Speaker last Sept. 17. He was replaced by Isabela 6th district Rep. Faustino "Bojie" Dy III, a member of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP).
Romualdez stepped down from the House leadership in order to give investigative bodies like the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to freely look into allegations of lawmakers' involvement in the flood control projects corruption scandal.
Romualdez has already submitted himself to the Palace-created commission for investigation.
"The ICI made it clear in their referral report that it was ‘issued without finding or conclusion of guilt or liability on the part of former Speaker Romualdez,’” lawyer Ade Fajardo, counsel and spokesperson of the Leyte congressman, earlier said.
