House Speaker Faustino "Bojie" Dy III said he wished that every day was Christmas, if only to enjoy the "unique wonder" that the occasion brings to Filipinos.
Dy shared his thoughts about this during his recent pre-Christmas address to his congressman-colleagues in plenary.
Sapagkat ang Pasko ay may hatid na kakaibang hiwaga (I often say, as I go around the different departments of Congress, that I wish every day were Christmas. For Christmas carries with it a unique wonder)," he said.
(At this time, we are more open to listening. The noise of conflict and disunity quiets down. We understand one another more clearly. And above all, we see more brightly what is truly important.)
Endeavoring to explain this quality, Dy said: "Christmas reminds us that love, compassion, and shared responsibility are not seasonal values—they must guide every decision we make, especially in public service."
"At ngayong Kapaskuhan, hayaan ninyong mag-iwan ako ng isang mensahe ng pag-asa (And during this Christmas time, let me leave you with a message of hope): Christmas reminds us that public service is an act of love. It teaches us to nurture a culture of kindness," said the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas stalwart.
Dy expounded on this message in his statement on Christmas eve, Wednesday, Dec. 24.
(This Christmas, we pause as one nation to give thanks, to reflect, and to once again embrace hope. In every twinkling light and every smile shared, let us remember the true spirit of Christmas: love, compassion for others, and the belief that everything becomes more meaningful when we are united.)
Alluding to the corruption controversies that befell the House of Representatives in recent months, Dy said: "Sa kabila ng mga pagsubok, pinili nating manaig ang katapatan, paggalang sa batas, at mahinahong pagkilos.
(Despite the challenges, we chose to uphold honesty, respect for the law, and calm action. Through collective cooperation, we are gradually restoring trust and laying down a brighter future. This is the commitment of Bagong Pilipinas—a government with clear direction and accountability to the people.)
May the wonder of Christmas strengthen our unity and inspire our service to others)."
