TRAP sets sights on Asian Beach Games and Asian Games next year

The Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) has already set its sights on two major events next year following a challenging yet fruitful campaign at the recently concluded 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.
TRAP president Tom Carrasco Jr. said the association is already gearing up for the 2026 Asian Beach Games in April for its aquathlon team, as well as the 20th Asian Games in September in Japan, with the aim of sustaining its progressive program.
“We will start now with the preparations for these two events,” said Carrasco.
The Nationals brought home three gold, five silver and two bronze medals -- a feat that Carrasco was grateful for despite the setbacks the team faced before and during the competition.
“We could have done better but we didn’t get the breaks,” said Carrasco.
“A tire puncture in male duathlon relay and food poisoning for Raven (Alcoseba) and Kira (Ellis) on the last day of competition. But we still thank God for the blessing of 10 medals out of 11 events,” he added.
The gold medals came from Ellis, Alcoseba, and Kim Mangrobang in women’s team relay; Iñaki Lorbes, Fer Casares and Matthew Hermosa in men’s team relay; and Ellis, Casares, Alcoseba and Kim Remolino in mixed team relay.
“Our coaches did a good job of shepherding the athletes,” Carrasco said.
Still, they are not resting on their laurels that easily.
“Indonesia improved a lot,” Carrasco admitted. “It was the first SEA Games since 2015 that we were not ‘llamado.’ But yes, we can still improve.”
With that, Carrasco said they are looking at holding a training camp at the Desmor Sports Complex in Rio Maior, Portugal. not only for its Asian Beach Games and Asian Games athletes, but also for the two athletes they are eyeing to send at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal late this year.
They are also retaining coach Sergio Santos as the team mentor.
