CEBU CITY – An inspection was conducted at the jail facility in Lapu-Lapu City where contractor Sarah Discaya is currently detained.
Police Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, chief of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7), led the inspection on Tuesday, Dec. 23.
Maranan said the inspection was based on the instruction of Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
“We conducted an ocular inspection together with officers of BJMP (Bureau of Jail and Management Penology) and we saw that they are in the regular jail,” said Maranan.
Discaya and eight Department of Public Works and Highways engineers were committed to the Lapu-Lapu City Jail over the weekend.
They were arrested for graft and malversation charges in connection with the alleged P96.5-million “ghost” flood control project in Davao Occidental.
According to Maranan, while Discaya and her co-accused are in regular cells, they will be isolated from other inmates for several days to check their health.
With the presence of high-profile inmates, security at the facility has been tightened.
The National Bureau of Investigation-Central Visayas said Discaya will be arraigned on Jan. 5.
