The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has assured its customers of its full readiness to address any electricity service concerns that may arise during the holiday break.
Meralco crews and personnel will remain on standby 24/7—even on Christmas Day—to keep the lights on for its over 8 million customers and help ensure a safe, bright, and worry-free celebration.
“We encourage our customers to do their part in ensuring a safe and joyful holiday season by practicing electrical safety. Rest assured, contingency measures are in place and our crews are prepared to respond to any possible electricity service concern,” said Joe R. Zaldarriaga, Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications.
Here are some safety tips to observe this holiday season:
● Unplug Christmas lights and appliances when not in use: Always unplug lights and appliances before leaving the house or going to bed.
● Inspect lights before reusing: Check for cracked, frayed, or damaged wires that may pose fire hazards.
● Avoid nails and thumb tacks when installing lights: These can damage wires and create fire risks. Use light hangers available in hardware and home stores instead.
● Refrain from “octopus” connections: Do not plug multiple extension cords into one another. Overloaded outlets are a common cause of fire incidents.
● Keep a fire extinguisher at home: Ensure you have a working fire extinguisher ready in case of emergencies.
While Meralco Business Centers are closed on Christmas Eve (December 24) and Christmas Day (December 25), customers can still report electricity service concerns through the MyMeralco app and on official social media accounts on Facebook (www.facebook.com/meralco) and X (@meralco). They may also text their concerns to 0920-9716211 or 0917-5516211 or contact the Meralco Hotline at 16211.
