Showing everyone her true worth, the 24-year-old Sanchez collected three gold and five silver medals to become the most bemedalled athlete for Team Philippines.
There is no doubt that two-time Olympic swimmer Kayla Sanchez will showcase her elite form in her first-ever Southeast Asian Games stint.
And for her feat, the former Canadian swimmer and Olympic medalist earned a good amount of money as mandated by Republic Act 10699 (National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act)
For a gold in the SEA Games, the athlete will get P300,000, silver with P150,000, and bronze P60,000.
In team events, winners composed of less than five participants receive a certain percentage of the incentive.
The University of British Columbia standout won her three golds in women’s 100m free, 100m back, and 4x100m freestyle relay team, while her five silvers came from 50m back, 50m free, 200m free, 4x200m freestyle relay, and 4x100m medley relay.
Swimmer Heather White also gets a good bonus with her one gold, three silvers, and one bronze medal.
Aside from the two swimmers, other notable multi-medalists were Kira Ellis (triathlon), Peter Groseclose (short track speed skating), Alex Eala (tennis), and Aleah Finnegan (gymnastics).
The country finished its campaign with 50 golds, 73 silvers and 154 bronzes to conclude its run at sixth overall.
