ILOILO CITY — Fresh from winning as the country’s Most Outstanding Local Government Unit in Localizing the Population and Development (PopDev), the provincial government of Iloilo opened its first Family and Youth Development Center (FYDC).
Gov. Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. led the inauguration of the P5-million facility in Igbaras town on Monday, Dec. 22.
According to Provincial Population Office chief Ruel Von Superio, the FYDC is part of the implementation of the Responsible Parenthood and the Adolescent Health and Youth Development Programs.
“This facility is a step towards establishing a permanent structure to sustainably support population and development programs for families and the youth,” said Superio.
The Defensor administration will open 12 additional FYDCs across the province. Still under construction are FYDCs in the towns of Badiangan, Banate, Batad, Calinog, Estancia, Lambunao, Lemery, New Lucena, Santa Barbara, San Dionisio, and Sara, as well as the component city of Passi.
Defensor also inaugurated covered gyms in Barangays Buga and Kinagdan, which cost P3.5 million each.
