With the northeast monsoon or “amihan” weakening and easterlies prevailing across much of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said no tropical cyclone or low-pressure area (LPA) is being monitored inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
“Wala pa rin naman tayong mino-monitor na anumang bagyo or low-pressure area sa loob at labas ng ating Philippine Area of Responsibility (We are still not monitoring any storm or low-pressure area inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility),” PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said on Tuesday, Dec. 23.
She noted that the “amihan” affecting Northern and Central Luzon has weakened, resulting in the absence of a shear line over the country.
“Sa ngayon, bahagyang humina itong northeast monsoon or ‘yung ‘amihan’ at umiiral dito sa may Northern at Central Luzon (At present, the northeast monsoon or ‘amihan’ affecting Northern and Central Luzon has slightly weakened),” said Dominguez.
“Dahil na rin sa paghina nito, wala tayong umiiral na shear line or nakakaapekto sa anumang parte ng ating bansa (Because of this weakening, there is no existing shear line affecting any part of the country),” she added.
Meanwhile, the state weather bureau said easterlies, or warm and humid air coming from the Pacific Ocean, are prevailing over the rest of the country.
“Mayroon din tayong easterlies o ‘yung mainit at maalinsangan na hangin na nanggagaling sa Dagat Pasipiko na umiiral naman sa nalalabing bahagi ng bansa natin (We also have easterlies, or warm and humid air coming from the Pacific Ocean, affecting the remaining parts of the country),” she said.
