Nartatez honors fallen rookie cop in Quezon, vows full assistance to 2 wounded cops

Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr., acting chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), vowed to hunt down the members of a gun-for-hire syndicate tagged in the death of a rookie policeman and the wounding of two other cops in Candelaria, Quezon.
Nartatez went to Quezon Province to personally pay his last respects to Patrolman Ron Jay Chavez of the 2nd Quezon Provincial Mobile Force Company and visit the two other wounded policemen.
Chavez was declared dead in the hospital following the clash that erupted when he and his companions chanced upon the armed men while conducting routine patrol near a banana plantation in Sitio Pulyok, Barangay San Isidro on Dec. 19.
“This incident reminds us of the risks our police officers face every day in the performance of their duty. We mourn the loss of Patrolman Chavez, whose service and bravery will not be forgotten, and we assure his family and our wounded personnel that the PNP stands with them,” said Nartatez.
In a follow-up operation by the Quezon Police Provincial Office, the alleged leader of the group, identified only as alias Mark of Tiaong, Quezon, was killed. Police recovered firearms and an abandoned vehicle while operations continue to track down the remaining suspects.
During the hospital visit, Nartatez awarded the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting and the Medalya ng Kadakilaan to the injured troopers in recognition of their courage under fire.
He also ensured that immediate financial assistance was extended to support their treatment and recovery.
Nartatez directed the local police units to sustain intelligence-driven operations against gun-for-hire syndicates and other organized armed groups operating in the region.
He stressed that those responsible for the death of Patrolman Chavez shall be held accountable.
Nartatez also assured that the PNP will continue providing financial, psychological, and logistical support to the families of the slain and wounded officers.
“The safety of our communities and the welfare of our personnel remain our top priorities. We will not waver in our duty to protect the people and to honor the sacrifices of our police officers,” he said.
