Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said the city's safety bollards are effective in preventing vehicles from crashing into pedestrians and other establishments.
Sotto made the statement following a social media post on an SUV that allegedly lost control and hit the bollard, preventing it from crashing into people and facilities.
"I hope no one was hurt, but at least we saw that our bollards are effective. I hope no one was hurt, but at least we saw that our bollards are effective. I admit that sometimes I get nervous that the local government unit (LGU) might be doing substandard work. As a mayor, I'm not an engineer, I'm not qualified, and you really just have to rely on your people. It's no secret, especially these days, that many government projects are substandard. Even in the private sector, sometimes work is taken for granted)," Sotto said.
In our opinion, since the procurement reform began, winning bids and project costs have decreased. That's okay, but our engineering staff needs to tighten things up even more to ensure that the contractor does the job correctly. I am very happy because we can see that the quality of the projects of the Pasig City LGU has improved)," he added.
The mayor explained that residents of Pasig City know very well how tight its streets and avenues are, prompting the city government to launch projects and initiatives to maximize its space, which includes the removal of encroachment, lowering and protecting of its sidewalks, and drainage improvement.
