Mayor Isko assures safety of Chinese tourists, traders in meeting with new envoy

Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso assured newly-designated Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Jing Quan on the safety of Chinese tourists and businessmen in the city and vowed to promote stronger ties with the Chinese community.
Domagoso gave the assurance during Ambassador Jing Quan's courtesy call on him which focused on Manila’s Filipino-Chinese heritage, public safety, and opportunities for local-level cooperation.
The mayor particularly highlighted the improved security measures being done in the city to ensure the safety and security of all residents, including visitors from other countries.
He also noted that Manila is home to the world’s oldest Chinatown and underscored the historic contributions of the Filipino-Chinese community to the city’s development.
During the meeting, Domagoso expressed his openness to strengthening people-to-people engagement, business-to-business collaboration, and cultural exchanges between Manila and selected cities in China at the local government level.
Prior to his posting in Manila, Ambassador Jing Quan served as minister and deputy chief of mission at China’s embassy in the United States and later as deputy director-general of the Department of North American and Oceanian Affairs from 2018 to 2021.
