An ash emission, which persisted for nearly two hours, was observed from the summit of Kanlaon Volcano on Monday afternoon, Dec. 22, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The agency reported that the ash emission began at 4:05 p.m.
Phivolcs said thin ashfall may have been experienced in La Carlota City, Bago City, and Murcia, Negros Occidental.
“The ash plume rose 900 meters above the summit and dispersed to the general northwest,” said Phivolcs.
Despite this, the agency said Kanlaon Volcano remains under Alert Level 2.
Under Alert Level 2, Phivolcs strictly prohibits entry into the Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ), typically within a 4-kilometer radius of the volcano, and urges local government units and communities to remain alert and review preparedness measures.
The agency also advises aviation authorities to avoid flying close to the volcano due to potential ash hazards.
