GMA Network partners with Synamedia for global cloud broadcast shift
Leading media company GMA Network Inc. is overhauling its global broadcast infrastructure by transitioning from traditional satellite delivery to cloud-based IP distribution.
In a statement, the network announced its partnership with Synamedia, a global video technology firm, and its local partner, Telered Technologies and Services Corp., to modernize its international operations.
The shift utilizes Synamedia’s Quortex Link platform to distribute the network’s flagship international channels, including GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV, and GMA News TV.
The move is designed to improve operational efficiency and establish a new standard for modern broadcasting, allowing the company to expand into new markets with greater agility while maintaining high-quality feeds for Filipino audiences worldwide.
GMA said the migration from satellite to IP has already resulted in significant cost reductions and streamlined workflows.
The transition began in 2023 when the company’s international arm moved its distribution to the cloud for affiliates in the Middle East and North Africa. The rollout expanded across the Asia-Pacific region in late 2024 and is currently in its final phase, extending coverage to the United States and Canada.
Ari P. Chio, GMA's first vice president for administration and investor relations, explained that the move was an effort to optimize resources and ensure long-term sustainability in an increasingly digital global landscape.
The network's push toward cloud-based solutions underscores a broader commitment to expanding its services across digital and online platforms.
Synamedia and Telered executives said the collaboration provides a blueprint for other regional broadcasters seeking to switch off satellite dependencies.
Vince Matherne, Synamedia vice president of global sales for video network, noted that the transition allows GMA to scale revenues through more flexible partnerships with pay-TV operators and affiliates.
Telered Vice President Chris Mauricio added that the technical upgrade aims to elevate Filipino media offerings alongside global providers.
By moving away from costly hardware-heavy infrastructure, GMA aims to bolster its operational resilience and deepen connections with the global Filipino diaspora.
