Antipolo residents, local execs mourn passing of Rep. Acop

The city government of Antipolo and constituents of the late Representative Romeo “Romy” Macusi Acop in the second legislative district in the city mourned the passing of the solon.
Antipolo City Mayor Casimiro “Junjun” Ynares III, the local chief executive of the Pilgrimage Capital of the Country, led the city residents in sending out message of condolences on the passing of Acop, fondly called in the city as "Cong. Romy".
Acop, 78, who served the city’s second district from 2010 to 2019 and again in 2022, was a retired police general and lawyer. He was uncontested in the 2016 and 2022 general elections wherein he started serving his fourth term as representative of the city’s second district until his death on December 20.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Philip Bong Acop, and daughters- Dr. Karla and Dr. Reena, and his late wife, Dr. Resurreccion Acop, who also served as the representative in the city's second district from 2019 until her demise in 2021.
In his post on social media, Acop’s son, Dr. Philip announced that the wake will be held at Haven of Angels in Antipolo City beginning Dec. 23 and continuing through Dec. 26.
They expressed gratitude to those who have sent messages and stories of how they remembered the congressman.
“We thank each and every one who has reached out to our family. Mula sa mga panalangin, sa mga mensahe ng pighati at pakikiramay, sa pagbabalik tanaw sa mga pagkakataong makasama Ninyo ang amin ama, hanggang sa pagbibigay suporta sa panahon ng aming pangungulila- tinatanaw po naming tanging-yaman ang mga ito. We are sincerely thankful for the understanding and patience shown to us as we come to terms with this unexpected loss,” part of the statement stated.
Messages of support and condolences on the social media page of Acop’s son continue to pour in including the group of beneficiaries of the financial assistance programs for the underprivileged in the city.
During Acop's political rallies in the past, the major streets in Antipolo City would be filled with his supporters, mostly in the middle age and senior citizens.
This reporter had witnessed during several instances where the some of the members of the crowd hugged Acop in every public engagement he was at in the city.
Rizal Governor Nina Ricci Ynares was among the local officials in Rizal Province who have expressed their messages of condolences to Acop’s family.
Acop’s family has yet to issue a statement on the date and place of burial of the congressman as of this writing.
