Recto: New ecozones to spur jobs, future-ready industries in key PH regions

Executive Secretary Ralph Recto said the designation of new Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Parañaque, Laguna, and Misamis Oriental will help accelerate job creation and attract future-ready industries across the country, following President Marcos’ latest proclamations.
Recto said the areas granted SEZ status continue to draw investor interest because of their location, workforce, and infrastructure support.
“These significant areas continue to attract investors because of their strategic location, skilled workforce, good infrastructure, and reliable utilities,” he said.
“With this, we can keep building future-ready industries and generate more job opportunities not just for our kababayans in the said areas, but for all Filipinos across the country,” he added.
Under Proclamation No. 1111, President Marcos declared the property located at 8912 ASEAN Avenue in Aseana City, Barangay Tambo, Parañaque as an Information Technology Economic Zone.
The area is envisioned to serve as a digital and technology hub, supporting the expansion of IT-enabled services and other innovation-driven industries.
Proclamation No. 1112 covers several parcels of land along National Road, Purok 9, in Barangays Cabug and Maanas in the Municipality of Medina, Misamis Oriental.
The area will be developed as an Agro-Industrial Economic Zone known as the Alloco Development Corp. Industrial Estate, aimed at boosting agri-based processing, logistics, and related industries in Northern Mindanao.
Proclamation No. 1113 establishes the Filinvest Innovation Park in Barangays Bubuyan and Punta in Laguna, positioning the site as a hub for modern manufacturing, technology, and research-driven enterprises.
According to Recto, the three ecozones are projected to attract a combined investment of around P3.03 billion and generate up to 7,200 jobs once fully operational.
Special Economic Zones allow registered enterprises to avail of fiscal and non-fiscal incentives, depending on industry priority and location, to encourage investment and regional development.
The proclamations, signed by Recto on Dec. 16, followed the recommendation of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) Board of Directors.
The newly declared ecozones will operate in accordance with Republic Act No. 7916, or the Special Economic Zone Act of 1995, as amended by Republic Act No. 8748, along with its implementing rules and relevant PEZA board resolutions.
