CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – A couple and their 10-year-old son were killed while a bystander was injured when a speeding van bumped the victims’ motorcycle on Friday, Dec. 19, in Pola town, this province.
Police Major Florante M. Sugian II, chief of the Pola Municipal Police Station, said the accident involved a black Yamaha Mio 125i motorcycle and a white Toyota HiAce van which were both traveling in the same direction from Pola to Socorro at about 4:40 p.m.
Police said upon reaching the accident site in Barangay Maluanluan, the driver of the van allegedly lost control of the vehicle and hit the rear or back part of the motorcycle.
Due to strong impact, the motorcycle of the victims –Julius D. Abesin, wife Dumalove, both 34, and their son Kier Ivan – overturned and crashed into other vehicles parked on the roadside.
An unidentified woman purchasing groceries in a store was injured.
Sugian said the victims were brought to a hospital in Socorro, Oriental Mindoro where they were declared dead by Dr. Dennis Soriano.
The 39-year-old driver of the van was taken to the Pola police station for proper documentation and custodial procedure.
He faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide and damage to property, police said.
