Caloocan City 2nd district Rep. Edgar "Egay" Erice believes its now a matter of security for Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) personnel to come out into the open with what they know about anomalous flood control projects.
Erice, the House senior deputy minority leader had this to say in a recent interview following the mysterious death, headline-grabbing death of former DPWH undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral.
As far as the flood control projects corruption scandal is concerned, Erice says former DPWH secretary Manuel Bonoan is still the person that has all the answers.
Because of her previous position, Cabral was probably in constant communication with Bonoan when they were still at DPWH. But she has passed away, and under eyebrow-raising circumstances at that.
“Eh si secretary [Bonoan] naman, wala na rin dito, nasa US (United States)," the veteran lawmaker from Caloocan City said.
"So, siguro, kinakailangan, siguro yung mga nakakaalam dyan sa DPWH, ang pinakamaganda security niyo, sabihin nyo na yung mga totoo. Dahil, pag may nakakaalam na may alam kayo, delikado na yung buhay niyo,” Erice warned.
(So, maybe, it’s necessary, maybe those who know something there in the DPWH, the best security you have is to tell the truth. Because, once someone knows that you know something, your life is already in danger.)
Erice didn't give any basis for his warning; however, he sounded very concerned over what could happen to the witnesses and the information they have as the investigation on the flood control mess drags on.
Erice said he will file a resolution on Monday, Dec. 22 to call for a House inquiry on Cabral’s death and her alleged participation in the flood control anomalies.
