Bacolod probes 'spoiled food' served on Employees' Day

BACOLOD CITY – This highly-urbanized city is investigating an allegation of spoiled food served during Employees' Day on Friday, Dec. 19, following concerns aired by numerous employees, including department and office heads.
Mayor Greg Gasataya has directed all department and office heads to submit detailed written reports based on feedback from personnel and staff.
"Regrettably, there were reported concerns from several workers regarding allegedly spoiled food served during the event," he said. "Such reports are deeply troubling and warrant a thorough and immediate investigation."
Gasataya said the city government disbursed a total of P3.2 million through a cash advance to the Bacolod City Government Employees Union (BCGEU), the official organizer of this year's event. The amount covered all expenses, including the food for the 6,650 attendees.
A meeting with BCGEU officials has been scheduled to address the matter. "We will get to the bottom of this. This shall never happen again. Our workers deserve better," Gasataya said.
The event is held annually for all government workers. "It is common sense that due diligence and the highest standards of care are observed in the preparation and handling of food provided to the employees as they deserve nothing less," Gasataya said.
Gasataya said that the city ensured full support and assistance to the BCGEU for the event's success. "This incident is both disappointing and unacceptable," the mayor said, adding that the health and safety of the workforce must never be compromised due to negligence or mismanagement of organizers.
