MAUBAN, Quezon - The Cagbalete Island Microgrid Project has officially become a reality in Cagbalete Island here, marking a major milestone towards cleaner, more reliable, and sustainable electricity for the island community.
After a series of meetings and extensive coordination with the management of Meralco, the project was formally highlighted during a ceremonial lighting and microgrid tour, underscoring its importance as a long-term solution to the power needs of Cagbalete Island.
Cagbalete Island is known for its pristine white sand beaches and natural attractions, but residents and tourists alike have long been deprived of reliable electricity. With the launching of the microgrid, both locals and visitors can now enjoy 24/7 power, benefiting more than 1,200 households across the island.
Officials said the project is believed to be the largest microgrid initiative in the country, with 100 percent of households on the island now electrified.
The development significantly strengthens energy access while promoting environmental sustainability and local economic growth, particularly in island and geographically isolated areas.

Mauban Mayor Erwin Pastrana thanked all partners involved in the project, citing its transformative impact on the lives of island residents and its role in advancing inclusive development.
Quezon Gov. Helen Tan attended the ceremonial lighting event, personally witnessing the launch of the microgrid and its immediate impact to the community.
The local government thanked Meralco, led by Chief Operating Officer Ronnie Aperocho and Chairman and CEO Manny V. Pangilinan, for spearheading the microgrid initiative, along with Energy Regulatory Commission Chairperson Francis Saturnino C. Juan, Department of Energy Secretary Sharon Garin, and Quezon Rep. Mark Enverga, represented by Zaldy Gariguez.
Members of the Mauban Sangguniang Bayan, along with other local officials and community leaders, were also recognized for their continued support.
Officials said the Cagbalete Island Microgrid Project is more than an infrastructure development.
They described it as a symbol of unity, shared responsibility, and a shared vision for a brighter, more progressive future for Cagbalete Island and the entire province of Quezon, as well as a model for delivering sustainable and affordable energy to island and remote communities nationwide.
