Cop slain in gun fight with armed men

CAMP NAKAR, Lucena City – A police officer was killed and two colleagues were wounded in a gun battle with a group of armed men in Sitio Pulyok, Barangay San Isidro, Candelaria town, Quezon province, on Friday evening, Dec. 19.
The name of the slain policeman was withheld for security reasons. He was declared dead at United Candelaria Doctors Hospital. The wounded are receiving medical care.
The victims are members of the Quezon Provincial Mobile Force Company.
A gunman, Tony, of Tanza town, Cavite province, was killed in the encounter.
Recovered in the encounter site were two 5.56 caliber rifles.
Lawmen were conducting a security patrol when they engaged the gunmen.
Quezon Police Provincial Office (QPPO) chief Police Col. Romulo Albacea condemned violence and attacks against law enforcement officers.
“Our police officers are there to serve and protect the people, and the use of violence against them is never acceptable," Albacea said.
