54 Davao City villages receive motorcycles from Dutertes

DAVAO CITY – Davao City first district Rep. Paolo Duterte, acting Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte II, and Puwersa ng Pilipinong Pandagat party-list Rep. Harold Duterte turned over 54 motorcycles to 54 barangays here on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 18, to support peace and order efforts and improve emergency response.
The turnover ceremony was held at People’s Park at around 1 p.m. The Dutertes personally handed over 27 Honda XRM-125 and 27 Honda XR-150 motorcycles to barangay captains from the city’s first district.
Rep. Paolo said the motorcycles were distributed to enhance barangay-level public safety operations and improve response times during emergencies. He emphasized that the vehicles are intended for routine peace and order patrols, quick reaction to incidents, and other urgent situations requiring immediate mobility within communities.
Barangay 8-A Captain James Abadilla said their motorcycle will be primarily used by barangay watchmen for regular patrols. He thanked the Dutertes for their support. Abadilla described the motorcycles as a timely Christmas gift that would directly benefit barangay security operations.
Barangay Talomo Captain Rene Alexis Villarente also thanked the Dutertes and said the motorcycle would improve their capacity to respond to incidents. He noted that their barangay hall is not located on a main highway and many areas can only be accessed through narrow roads and alleyways.
“It is a big help to our barangay,” Villarente said. “When there is an incident, responders often have to pass through small roads, sometimes like alleys. Walking takes too long, and response time is critical. With a motorcycle, we can respond faster.”
Villarente assured that the motorcycle will be used for emergency response and security operations, particularly in monitoring youth-related disturbances and pursuing individuals involved in criminal activities.
The Dutertes said the distribution of motorcycles underscores efforts to strengthen grassroots governance by equipping barangays with practical tools to ensure public safety and facilitate faster emergency responses across Davao City.
