San Juan City receives new rescue boats as DILG good governance incentive
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora presented on Friday, Dec. 19, seven brand-new rescue boats given by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) as incentive for the city's recognition as a Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Awardee for 2024.
Zamora personally received the rescue boats from DILG City Director Adrian Lopez in a turnover ceremony held at the San Juan City Hall.
"Each rescue boat weighs approximately 150 kilograms and has a maximum carrying capacity of up to 1,000 kilograms. Each unit is equipped with two paddles, a high-powered 21,000-lumen rescue flashlight, and a boat trailer, allowing for easier and faster transport of the boats to areas where they are most needed during emergency and rescue operations," Zamora said.
In January, the city government had received the 2024 SGLG Incentive Fund Check amounting to P2,000,000 and the presentation of the completed 2023 SGLG Project.
It had also received an emergency vehicle for the city's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) equipped with a base radio, Starlink satellite mobile internet, an EcoFlow portable power station with solar panels, search lights, a fire extinguisher, and a DJI drone.
Zamora said that the Seal of Good Local Governance is the highest recognition an LGU can receive from the DILG.
“Pursuant to Republic Act No. 11292, or the SGLG Act of 2018, this award is a testament to our commitment to excellence, as LGUs must meet all 10 critical governance areas to qualify. Failure in even one means disqualification. It’s all or nothing! ” he explained.
To receive the award, the LGU must pass the DILG’s All-In Assessment Approach: Financial Administration and Sustainability; Disaster Preparedness; Social Protection and Sensitivity; Health Compliance and Responsiveness; Sustainable Education; Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness; Safety, Peace, and Order; Environmental Management; Tourism, Heritage Development, Culture, and Arts; and Youth Development.
