RP Blu Girls retain SEA Games crown; Gilas Women escape Thailand for gold

BANGKOK – The RP Blu Girls remained the benchmark in women’s softball after retaining their crown just as the Gilas Pilipinas women’s team survived Thailand in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games on Friday, Dec. 19 here.
The Blu Girls put up a dominant showing in the final, 4-1, against Singapore at the Queen Sirikit Baseball Stadium, while Gilas nipped Thailand, 73-70, in the women’s 5-on-5 final at the Nimibutr Arena.
With the win, the Blu Girls have now won 11 straight in the biennial meet. Gilas, on the other hand, won three of the last four.
